About these terms
These terms apply when you ask Fox Skylights Leicester to install or replace a skylight or rooflight. Fox Skylights Leicester is a service-area business. We visit your property, so there is no public premises and no shop. You can contact us by phone on 0116 430 0516, at info@foxskylightsleicester.co.uk or on WhatsApp at 07880 284133.
Your written quote is the contract document for your job. If anything here conflicts with the written quote, the quote wins for that job. Nothing in these terms limits any right you have by law.
Surveys and quotes
The survey is free. We visit, look at the roof and the room below, take measurements and talk through the options for your skylight or rooflight. After the survey we send a fixed written quote that sets out the product, the work included, the timing and the payment terms.
A quote is valid for the period stated on it. A figure given in conversation, in a message or from photos alone is a guide and is not a contract. If the survey or the work shows something that changes the job, such as hidden timber or a different structure than expected, we will explain it and agree any change in writing with you before going ahead.
You can ask for a survey and quote here.
Accepting a quote
A contract is formed when you accept the written quote, by signing it, replying to confirm in writing or paying the deposit as set out in it. Please read it through first and ask if anything is unclear. The quote names the product, the opening size and the finish you chose, so check those details before you accept.
Deposits and payment
Any deposit, stage payment and final payment are as stated in your written quote. We do not ask for payment terms that are not in the quote. The final payment falls due as the quote says, normally once the work is complete and you have had the chance to look it over. We will give you a receipt or invoice for each payment.
If we are late with the work for reasons within our control, tell us and we will agree a new date with you in writing.
Your right to cancel
If you make the contract at your home or anywhere else away from our business premises, which includes a contract agreed during or after a survey visit, the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 give you the right to cancel within 14 days. The 14 days start on the day the contract is made, which is the day you accept the quote. You do not need to give a reason.
To cancel, tell us clearly in writing, for example by email to info@foxskylightsleicester.co.uk. You may use any wording that makes your decision plain. If you cancel in time, we will refund what you have paid within 14 days of hearing from you.
You can ask us to start work inside the 14 days. If you do, we need that request in writing. If you then cancel, you pay us for the work done up to the point you told us, in proportion to the full price in the quote. Goods made to your specification, such as a rooflight built to a custom size, can fall outside the right to cancel once the order is placed with the manufacturer, and where that applies the quote will tell you before you accept. The government's guidance on cancelling is on gov.uk.
Access, scaffolding and weather
We need safe access to the roof and to the room below the opening. Please clear the space under the work and tell us about pets, children and any alarm or fragile items. Roof work depends on the weather. If rain, wind or ice makes it unsafe or unwise to open a roof, we will rebook with you rather than leave it exposed.
Planning and Building Regulations
Many rooflights and roof windows fall within permitted development, but listed buildings, flats and some conservation areas can be different. Our planning and Building Regulations guide explains the rules. Where the work is notifiable, we handle the Building Control notification. If your property is listed or has a restriction on it, tell us before you accept the quote.
Our 10-year workmanship guarantee
Our installation work carries a 10-year workmanship guarantee. The full wording, what it covers and how to claim are on the guarantee page. Manufacturers' own product warranties are separate and are passed to you with your job paperwork.
Your consumer rights
Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, we must carry out our services with reasonable care and skill, and goods we supply must be of satisfactory quality, fit for their purpose and as described. If the work or a product does not meet that standard, you are entitled to ask us to put it right, and where that is not possible you can seek a price reduction or a refund. You also have the right to a service that is done within a reasonable time when no time is agreed. The full text is at legislation.gov.uk.
If something goes wrong
Tell us as soon as you notice a problem, with photos if you can. Our complaints procedure sets out what happens next. Our privacy policy explains how we handle your data. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, unless you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, where you may bring a claim under the law of your home nation.
