Two promises, not one
Every skylight or rooflight we install is backed twice. The product itself, the glass, the frame, the motor if it has one, carries the manufacturer's own warranty. Our guarantee sits alongside it and covers something the maker cannot: the installation. For ten years, if our work on your roof is at fault, we come back and put it right.
That split matters because the two fail in different ways. A sealed unit that mists is a product question. Water getting in round a sound unit points to the fitting, and that is ours to answer.
What the guarantee covers
The guarantee covers the work we carry out on the job:
- The fit. The frame fixed square and secure in the opening, and the trimming of rafters around it.
- The flashing and weathering. The flashing kit dressed into the tiles or slates, the underlay lapped into the collar, and on a flat roof the covering dressed up and sealed against the kerb.
- The kerb and upstand we build. Where we make or fit the raised frame the rooflight sits on, that frame and its weathering are covered.
- The internal finish we do. The insulation packed round the frame and the lining or plasterboard reveals we put in.
In short, if we made it, fixed it or sealed it, the guarantee stands behind it.
What it does not cover
A workmanship guarantee is about the quality of the installation, so some things sit outside it:
- Normal wear. Seals, filters and moving parts age with use, and a little care keeps them going: a wipe of the seals, a clear vent filter, leaves off the sensor.
- Damage. Storm debris, a dropped ladder, a ball through the glass, or anything that happens to the light after we leave.
- Work by others. If someone else alters the roof, the flashing or the opening later, the parts they touched are theirs.
- The product itself. Faults in the glazing, the frame, blinds or electrics are handled under the manufacturer's warranty. We can point you to the right people and tell you what the maker will want to see.
How to make a claim
Call us on 0116 430 0516, send us a message on WhatsApp on 07880 284133, or email info@foxskylightsleicester.co.uk. Tell us the address and roughly when the light was fitted, and attach a few photos: the light from inside, any staining or drips, and the outside if you can see it safely from the ground or a window.
We look at what you send and arrange a visit to see the problem in person. If the cause is our work, we put it right under the guarantee. If it turns out to be the product, we help you take it to the manufacturer. If it is something else, such as a blocked gutter sending water where it should not go, we explain what we found.
One request: please stay off the roof. Photos from the ground are plenty.
Keeping it simple
Keep your written quote and invoice with the house papers. They name the product, the size and the position of the opening, which is what we and the manufacturer will ask about. The guarantee is part of every installation we do, whether it is a single roof window or a lantern on a new extension, alongside handling Building Control where the work is notifiable. To read more about how we work, see about Fox Skylights, or ask for a survey.
